A step-by-step method for removing pet urine odor and old stains: follow the steps in order and the treatment works fast, with no repeat attempts — the dwell time of the product does the work, not scrubbing.
The order of steps, how to treat dried-in stains, why odor sometimes comes back, separate treatment routines for a mattress, sofa, carpet and clothing, and the final step — how to rinse out the product residue and dry the fabric properly.
The products are matched for chemical compatibility: the cleaning stage works in an alkaline environment, the final rinse is acidic. The acid neutralizes the alkaline residue and brings the fibre's pH back to neutral — no soapy residue, no stiffness, no smell of the product itself is left in the fabric. The fabric smells like fabric and feels clean to the touch.
The final rinse is an essential step, not a bonus: spray the treated area with clean water 2-3 times, blotting each time with a clean cloth until the foam and product smell are gone. Let the fabric dry completely, usually 4-6 hours at room temperature. To check, wipe the dry area with a clean white napkin: it should leave no odor, stickiness, or streaks behind. If any remain, repeat the rinse. This step is the same for mattresses, sofas, rugs, and clothing; only the amount of water per area will vary.
